Rwanda Cycling Federation (FERWACY) has sent two young riders and a coach for a training camp at the World Cycling Centre Africa (WCC Africa) in Potchefstroom, South Africa.
The trio left the country on Monday morning aboard RwandAir with the training scheduled to start on October 11 and run until November 30.
The two youngsters include; 17-year-old Jean Eric Habimana, who rides for Nyarugenge District-based Fly Cycling Club, and 20-year-old Magnifique Manizabayo, a female rider, who rides for Muhazi Cycling Generation.
Retired Team Rwanda cyclist Nathan Byukusenge travelled with the duo and will also be attending a coaching clinic.
Before leaving, Byukusenge told Times Sport that; “On top of attending the training clinic, the two riders shall also compete in races that will be organised by the UCI center in the due course.”
By attaining this coaching certificate, the 2016 Olympian, Byukusenge, will become the most qualified Rwandan cycling coach along with Team Rwanda assistant coach Felix Sempoma.
This will be the second time that Byukusenge and Habimana are attending a training clinic organized by UCI Africa this year.
In March, the duo, along with Club Benediction’s Didier Munyaneza, underwent a track cycling clinic and competed in the African Continental Track Cycling Championships, the first time that Rwandan riders were taking part in this particular version of the sport.
Habimana, despite being his debut, went on to claim three medals, including two silvers and one bronze in the junior section.
